The MVFD marked its 75th anniversary in 2016 exhibiting a long history of advancement and achievement from its auspicious start in 1941. For over 75 years the men and women of The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department have dedicated their untiring efforts to serving the community by responding to emergencies that immediately threaten life or property, to routine citizen requests for information or assistance, and performing duties in fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue and hazardous material responses. See more of our history here.
Today the MVFD answers approximately 1300 calls for aid deploying 4 engines, two squads, an aerial ladder, 2 ambulances and a variety of specialized equipment from 2 fire stations. Our main station, 65 Tucker Hill Rd is the hub for department activity and our West End station provides shortened response times for the western half of the town. Stations are staffed by 120 volunteers with 60 volunteers serving as active fire fighters. The balance, consisting of Ladies & Ambulance Auxiliaries, Junior Members and Veteran Members provide critical support to the ongoing operations of the department. For more information on these groups, our history and our current apparatus see their dedicated pages.
The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department is well positioned to serve the needs of the town but we need your help. The ever increasing demands of the community, regulations and firefighting technology are a challenge for such a small group. Please, if you are an Adult Middlebury Resident consider the opportunity to help your neighbor in their hour of greatest need. Join the MVFD, click here for details. The rewards are great: life-long friendships, high value skills and the exhilaration of helping neighbors in need.
